From Foundation to Finish: A Completed Installation at Klairenet Cemetery, Witbank
Every tombstone we place begins the same way — with red earth, a measuring tape, and a team that takes the work seriously. This is a look at a recent installation we completed at Klairenet Cemetery in Witbank, from the first brick laid to the final polish.
The Foundation First
Before a single granite slab is positioned, we build the foundation properly. Our team begins by laying a 2-line facebrick perimeter around the grave — level, plumb, and set in cement. This is the structural base that keeps the tombstone stable for decades, regardless of soil movement or seasonal rain.
What you see in the ground is not just brickwork. It is the difference between a tombstone that settles and shifts over time and one that stands exactly as placed.
The Installation
Once the foundation had cured and the grave was ready, the granite went in.
This installation features a polished black granite flat-top design with a book-style headstone elevated on four granite support columns above the slab. The open-book piece carries the inscription on both pages — the left bearing the name and dedication, the right a dove motif with the birth and death dates. The slab itself carries an engraved epitaph and a cross-and-dove motif laser-etched into the surface.
The facebrick foundation is finished in a light face brick, creating a clean two-tone contrast against the black granite — a signature of our installations.
The MK Tombstones brand mark and contact number are discreetly engraved on the front fascia panel, as they are on every stone we place.
The Finished Result
The completed tombstone stands as a proper tribute — dignified, well-built, and built to last.
